In 2017 election of Mohanyal Rural Municipality (Kailali district), candidate Nawal Singh Rawal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,998 (36.01%) votes out of total votes of 5,548 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dharam Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 1,822 (24.15%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,728 (15.57) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Puja Devi Budha Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,033 (37.80%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Rabi Kumari Rana Magar of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,756 (23.69%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,589 (14.77) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 132 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 81 (61.36%) males and 51 (38.64%) females. Moreover, there were total 27 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 48 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 23 females and 24 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
