In 2017 election of Mangalsen Municipality (Achham district), candidate Padam Bahadur Bohara of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,691 (50.73%) votes out of total votes of 9,247 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Chandra Prasad Dhungana of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,553 (32.67%) of votes.
