In 2017 election of Musikot Municipality (Rukum_W district), candidate Devi Lal Gautam of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,350 (39.73%) votes out of total votes of 10,949 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Mahendra K.c of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,174 (27.28%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,425 (11.07) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Prem Kumari Sunar (k.c) of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,479 (41.25%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Bal Kumari Giri of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,158 (27.11%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,220 (10.22) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 230 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 135 (58.70%) males and 95 (41.30%) females. Moreover, there were total 46 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 86 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 44 females and 40 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
