In 2017 election of Mahabu Rural Municipality (Dailekh district), candidate Janga Bahadur Shahi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,522 (48.81%) votes out of total votes of 7,216 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Karna Bahadur Shahi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,900 (27.01%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 794 (5.50) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Prem Kumari Budha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,508 (48.50%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Manju Kumari Sharma of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,887 (26.88%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 838 (5.79) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 116 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 74 (63.79%) males and 42 (36.21%) females. Moreover, there were total 24 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 46 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 20 females and 18 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
