In 2017 election of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City (Dang district), candidate Ghanshyam Pandey of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 22,857 (43.84%) votes out of total votes of 52,141 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Gehendra Giri of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 18,903 (25.20%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 10,381 (9.95) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Maya Sharma of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 21,037 (40.49%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Devika Nepali Ghimire of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 20,185 (27.65%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 10,732 (10.33) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 435 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 262 (60.23%) males and 173 (39.77%) females. Moreover, there were total 103 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 19 wards. Same as, total 164 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 81 females and 70 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
