In 2017 election of Bhumikasthan Municipality (Arghakhanchi district), candidate Resham Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,320 (37.52%) votes out of total votes of 14,180 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Kabiram Khanal of Rastriya JanaMorcha (RasJanM) who secured 4,542 (23.29%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,318 (15.23) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Khadananda Belbase of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,230 (38.59%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sunita Bhusal (belbase) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,701 (25.03%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,622 (13.36) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 199 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 120 (60.30%) males and 79 (39.70%) females. Moreover, there were total 40 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 77 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 38 females and 34 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
