In 2017 election of Musikot Municipality (Gulmi district), candidate Somnath Sapkota of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,668 (51.26%) votes out of total votes of 13,007 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Krishna Hari Sapkota of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,587 (28.40%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 752 (2.89) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Kamala Gautam of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,607 (50.90%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Bishnu Kumari Sapkota of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,716 (29.18%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 658 (2.53) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 141 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 84 (59.57%) males and 57 (40.43%) females. Moreover, there were total 27 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 54 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 27 females and 26 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
