In 2017 election of Pyuthan Municipality (Pyuthan district), candidate Arjun Kumar Kachhyapati of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,313 (37.08%) votes out of total votes of 14,330 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Tulsi Ram Sharma of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 4,293 (21.86%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,724 (16.48) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Shanta Acharya of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,098 (39.63%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Bhagwati Kumari Bista of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,415 (19.01%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,352 (16.91) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 287 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 168 (58.54%) males and 119 (41.46%) females. Moreover, there were total 62 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 108 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 52 females and 49 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
