In 2017 election of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality (Syangja district), candidate Khim Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,088 (51.58%) votes out of total votes of 9,864 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Sher Bahadur Thapa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,422 (29.57%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 354 (1.79) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sabitra Koirala of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,116 (52.26%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Tulasa Pandey Bhattarai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,325 (29.02%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 348 (1.78) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 95 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 58 (61.05%) males and 37 (38.95%) females. Moreover, there were total 21 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 36 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 17 females and 15 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
