In 2017 election of Galyang Municipality (Syangja district), candidate Bhupraj Adhikari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,368 (52.68%) votes out of total votes of 15,886 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Lal Gopal Aryal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 6,062 (24.99%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,456 (4.58) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Devi Sara Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,419 (53.25%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Khagi Sara Bhandari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,976 (24.66%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,416 (4.48) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 174 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 101 (58.05%) males and 73 (41.95%) females. Moreover, there were total 38 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 63 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 32 females and 31 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
