In 2017 election of Kawasoti Municipality (Nawalparasi_E district), candidate Chandra Kumari Pun of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 13,041 (45.80%) votes out of total votes of 28,474 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Mahendra Prasad Pokharel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 12,594 (30.34%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,839 (4.99) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Prem Shankar Mardaniya Tharu of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 13,814 (48.40%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Khagi Sara Gurung of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 11,693 (27.61%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,036 (5.32) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 328 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 205 (62.50%) males and 123 (37.50%) females. Moreover, there were total 78 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 17 wards. Same as, total 126 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 62 females and 45 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
