In 2017 election of Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality (Kaski district), candidate Karna Bahadur Gurung of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,607 (48.14%) votes out of total votes of 11,647 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Khushi Man Gurung of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,601 (26.67%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,439 (6.18) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Krishna Kumari Paudel Dawadi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,479 (47.10%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Tokan Shobha Gurung of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,473 (26.14%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,680 (7.22) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 187 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 112 (59.89%) males and 75 (40.11%) females. Moreover, there were total 38 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 73 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 33 females and 30 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
