In 2017 election of Kamalamai Municipality (Sindhuli district), candidate Khadga Bahadur Khatri of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,152 (45.79%) votes out of total votes of 24,355 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Upendra Kumar Pokharel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 8,388 (23.62%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,815 (9.89) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Manju Devkota of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,921 (41.17%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sushila Thing of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,523 (28.00%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,651 (9.65) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 314 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 189 (60.19%) males and 125 (39.81%) females. Moreover, there were total 72 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 116 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 58 females and 54 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
