In 2017 election of Dudhauli Municipality (Sindhuli district), candidate Ghan Shyam Raut of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,598 (34.58%) votes out of total votes of 24,861 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Dinesh Adhikari of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 8,223 (24.58%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,040 (16.17) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bal Kumari Adhikari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,740 (35.50%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Chet Narayan Adhikari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,214 (24.62%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,668 (15.57) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 229 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 131 (57.21%) males and 98 (42.79%) females. Moreover, there were total 48 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 84 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 44 females and 42 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
