In 2017 election of Gokulganga Rural Municipality (Ramechhap district), candidate Khadga Bahadur Sunuwar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,551 (42.71%) votes out of total votes of 8,314 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Nanibabu Basnet of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,152 (26.57%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,611 (9.69) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Radhika Shrestha (newar) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,688 (44.58%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Tulasa Khadka (k.c) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,924 (24.45%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,661 (10.04) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 134 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 78 (58.21%) males and 56 (41.79%) females. Moreover, there were total 26 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 49 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 25 females and 24 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
