In 2017 election of Kakani Rural Municipality (Nuwakot district), candidate Man Bahadur Lama of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,534 (38.12%) votes out of total votes of 11,895 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dipesh Lama/ Tamang of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,551 (21.61%) of votes. The rest of 10 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 3,810 (16.02) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sita Lama of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,133 (35.88%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Lajita Lama/ Tamang of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,697 (23.62%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 3,690 (16.02) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 176 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 111 (63.07%) males and 65 (36.93%) females. Moreover, there were total 42 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 62 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 30 females and 25 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
