In 2017 election of Jiri Municipality (Dolakha district), candidate Tanka Bahadur Jirel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,212 (45.93%) votes out of total votes of 6,993 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Gelbu Sherpa of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 2,106 (20.64%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,675 (11.98) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Krishna Maya Budhathoki (khadka) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,268 (48.39%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Chitra Maya Sharma of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 1,941 (19.37%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,544 (11.43) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 161 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 102 (63.35%) males and 59 (36.65%) females. Moreover, there were total 38 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 57 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 29 females and 24 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
