In 2017 election of Paterwa Sugauli Rural Municipality (Parsa district), candidate Harinarayan Chaudhari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,957 (34.64%) votes out of total votes of 8,536 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dinesh Kumar Chaudhary Tharu of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,875 (25.02%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 2,704 (15.84) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Mamata Mahato of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,263 (40.58%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sanju Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,789 (24.67%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,989 (12.37) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 159 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 91 (57.23%) males and 68 (42.77%) females. Moreover, there were total 34 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 52 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 28 females and 29 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
