In 2017 election of Baragadhi Rural Municipality (Bara district), candidate Devdatta Bachhad Tharu of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,618 (27.36%) votes out of total votes of 9,569 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Ashok Kumar Jayaswal of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) who secured 2,555 (20.96%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,396 (22.97) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Laxmi Devi Raya of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 2,580 (27.95%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Chandrawati Chaudhari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,454 (20.78%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,196 (22.73) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 219 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 132 (60.27%) males and 87 (39.73%) females. Moreover, there were total 42 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 82 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 39 females and 39 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
