In 2017 election of Kolhabi Municipality (Bara district), candidate Bharat Bahadur Bhandari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,401 (43.66%) votes out of total votes of 16,953 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Muralidhar Prasad Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 7,205 (29.58%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,347 (6.92) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sunaina Tharuni of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,322 (43.87%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Subhadra Dhimal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,712 (27.95%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,656 (7.96) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 232 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 131 (56.47%) males and 101 (43.53%) females. Moreover, there were total 46 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 89 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 43 females and 44 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
