In 2017 election of Dewahi Gonahi Municipality (Rautahat district), candidate Dharmendra Prasad Patel of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 3,255 (30.51%) votes out of total votes of 10,668 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Premlal Shah Kanu of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 3,050 (21.91%) of votes. The rest of 10 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,363 (20.45) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Parniya Devi of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,129 (30.58%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Koshalya Devi of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 2,861 (21.41%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,242 (20.73) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 230 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 145 (63.04%) males and 85 (36.96%) females. Moreover, there were total 52 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 82 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 37 females and 38 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
