In 2017 election of Garuda Municipality (Rautahat district), candidate Inu Raya Yadav of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 3,876 (21.85%) votes out of total votes of 17,738 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Sunil Kumar Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,803 (17.60%) of votes. The rest of 22 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 10,059 (28.35) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Rangila Kumari Jaiswal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,603 (27.19%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Bindu Kumari Devi Shah of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 4,120 (19.13%) of votes and came in second position. Other 13 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,206 (24.24) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 277 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 181 (65.34%) males and 96 (34.66%) females. Moreover, there were total 62 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 93 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 46 females and 37 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
