In 2017 election of Phatuwabijaypur Municipality (Rautahat district), candidate Gopal Raya Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,099 (25.34%) votes out of total votes of 12,229 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Surendra Raya of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 2,986 (19.48%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 6,144 (25.12) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Kanti Devi of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,203 (27.03%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ambeya Khatun of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,127 (20.77%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,520 (23.29) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 268 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 163 (60.82%) males and 105 (39.18%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 100 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 48 females and 47 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
