In 2017 election of Haripurwa Municipality (Sarlahi district), candidate Siyaram Raya of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,753 (37.31%) votes out of total votes of 10,059 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Brajbhushan Prasad Shah of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 2,359 (17.08%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 3,947 (19.62) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Chandrakala Devi Sudi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,640 (26.96%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ram Dulari Yadav of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 2,408 (19.37%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,745 (24.23) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 280 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 172 (61.43%) males and 108 (38.57%) females. Moreover, there were total 64 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 100 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 50 females and 50 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
