In 2017 election of Hansapur Municipality (Dhanusa district), candidate Ram Gyan Mandal of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,320 (24.40%) votes out of total votes of 13,607 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Pradip Kumar Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,229 (19.08%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 7,058 (25.94) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Renu Devi Jha of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,276 (25.86%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ram Kumari Kamat of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,027 (18.99%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 6,363 (25.12) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 228 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 142 (62.28%) males and 86 (37.72%) females. Moreover, there were total 51 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 83 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 40 females and 38 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
