In 2017 election of Dhanushadham Municipality (Dhanusa district), candidate Baleshwor Mandal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,473 (29.39%) votes out of total votes of 15,217 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Yog Kumar Yadav of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,557 (18.07%) of votes. The rest of 17 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 7,187 (23.62) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bidhya Devi Bhujel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,207 (28.16%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ambika Kumari Bishwokarma of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,703 (19.34%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,028 (23.52) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 301 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 190 (63.12%) males and 111 (36.88%) females. Moreover, there were total 66 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 106 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 50 females and 51 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
