In 2017 election of Aurahi Rural Municipality (Siraha district), candidate Siddhartha Yadav of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,658 (32.57%) votes out of total votes of 8,161 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Shivaji Yadav of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) who secured 2,652 (24.51%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 2,851 (17.47) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sita Kumari of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 2,632 (32.43%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Devjhari Devi Yadav of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,459 (22.88%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 3,024 (18.63) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 107 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 64 (59.81%) males and 43 (40.19%) females. Moreover, there were total 20 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 40 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 20 females and 19 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
