In 2017 election of Kalyanpur Municipality (Siraha district), candidate Suryanath Mandal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,804 (26.32%) votes out of total votes of 18,249 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Babau Yadav of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) who secured 4,597 (19.94%) of votes. The rest of 18 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,848 (24.24) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Rohini Kumari Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,664 (26.21%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Masuda Khatun of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 4,438 (19.76%) of votes and came in second position. Other 8 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,693 (24.43) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 367 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 219 (59.67%) males and 148 (40.33%) females. Moreover, there were total 76 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 132 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 63 females and 66 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
