In 2017 election of Karjanha Municipality (Siraha district), candidate Ganga Pasman of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,309 (39.19%) votes out of total votes of 10,996 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Dayal Mahato of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,190 (20.84%) of votes. The rest of 14 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 3,497 (15.90) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Gyan Kumari Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,313 (39.26%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Anju Kumari Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,945 (19.25%) of votes and came in second position. Other 8 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,729 (16.97) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 276 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 164 (59.42%) males and 112 (40.58%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 98 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 48 females and 47 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
