In 2017 election of Rajbiraj Municipality (Saptari district), candidate Shambhu Prasad Yadav of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 4,774 (23.88%) votes out of total votes of 19,989 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bhimraj Yadav of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) who secured 4,759 (19.22%) of votes. The rest of 10 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 10,456 (26.15) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sadhana Jha of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 5,195 (27.36%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Kiran Kumari Shah of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 4,269 (17.65%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 9,525 (25.08) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 537 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 332 (61.82%) males and 205 (38.18%) females. Moreover, there were total 122 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 16 wards. Same as, total 202 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 103 females and 89 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
