In 2017 election of Duhabi Municipality (Sunsari district), candidate Bed Narayan Gachhadar of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) secured 7,420 (33.55%) votes out of total votes of 22,118 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Gauri Shankar Rauniya of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,615 (19.01%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 9,083 (20.53) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sunita Dahal of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) secured 6,683 (30.84%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Chandrakala Devi Biswas of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,881 (20.74%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 9,107 (21.01) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 313 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 186 (59.42%) males and 127 (40.58%) females. Moreover, there were total 70 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 117 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 56 females and 55 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
