In 2017 election of Pathari Shanishchare Municipality (Morang district), candidate Dilip Kumar Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,087 (36.20%) votes out of total votes of 25,099 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ganesh Kumar Khadka of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 7,224 (21.13%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,788 (17.51) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Yamuna Bista of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,927 (40.60%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Premala Rai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 7,344 (21.36%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,179 (14.68) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 290 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 173 (59.66%) males and 117 (40.34%) females. Moreover, there were total 67 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 108 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 55 females and 45 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
