In 2017 election of Kachankawal Rural Municipality (Jhapa district), candidate Anjara Alam of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) secured 5,816 (35.36%) votes out of total votes of 16,448 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Kalendra Prasad Singh Rajbanshi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,353 (24.04%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 5,279 (16.05) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Nimsari Rajbanshi of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) secured 5,774 (35.93%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Gita Odari Kharel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,072 (23.22%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 5,226 (16.26) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 179 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 113 (63.13%) males and 66 (36.87%) females. Moreover, there were total 33 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 73 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 36 females and 25 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
