In 2017 election of Haldibari Rural Municipality (Jhapa district), candidate Rabindra Prasad Lingden of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) secured 3,943 (31.38%) votes out of total votes of 12,564 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Manju Devi Sitaula of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,543 (21.46%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 5,078 (20.21) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Dambar Bahadur Giri of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,386 (35.83%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Chandrakala Chamling of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,747 (16.52%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 5,107 (20.86) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 123 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 75 (60.98%) males and 48 (39.02%) females. Moreover, there were total 26 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 46 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 22 females and 20 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
