In 2017 election of Arjundhara Municipality (Jhapa district), candidate Hari Kumar Rana Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 13,879 (50.44%) votes out of total votes of 27,516 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Hem Prasad Kharel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 9,641 (23.29%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 3,996 (7.26) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Kamala Khatiwada of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 12,831 (46.72%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Saraswati Sitaula (tamang) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 10,579 (26.26%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,051 (7.38) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 286 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 172 (60.14%) males and 114 (39.86%) females. Moreover, there were total 63 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 108 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 52 females and 44 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
