In 2017 election of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality (Khotang district), candidate Dip Narayan Rizal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,343 (33.76%) votes out of total votes of 15,826 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Rajan Sher Rai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,718 (22.29%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 5,765 (18.21) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bina Devi Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,367 (35.55%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Homkaji Acharya of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,627 (22.61%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,102 (16.90) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 313 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 193 (61.66%) males and 120 (38.34%) females. Moreover, there were total 65 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 15 wards. Same as, total 125 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 56 females and 55 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
