In 2017 election of Sirijangha Rural Municipality (Taplejung district), candidate Tika Ram Gurung of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,378 (37.14%) votes out of total votes of 6,403 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Ananta Bahadur Sanwa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 2,147 (24.45%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,878 (14.67) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Gyan Maya Chauhan of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,136 (36.90%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Lila Maya Dahal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,830 (23.09%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,822 (15.74) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 138 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 90 (65.22%) males and 48 (34.78%) females. Moreover, there were total 30 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 55 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 24 females and 21 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
