In 2017 election of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality (Taplejung district), candidate Saroj Limbu of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,998 (43.34%) votes out of total votes of 4,610 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Mani Prasad Limbu of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 1,665 (25.20%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 947 (10.27) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Phul Maya Limbu of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,888 (54.88%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Tara Devi Limbu of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 833 (15.63%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 719 (10.45) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 118 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 80 (67.80%) males and 38 (32.20%) females. Moreover, there were total 26 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 48 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 23 females and 11 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
