There were 40,388 votes casted during 2008 Constituent Assembly elections in Jhapa District, Constituency No. 3. The candidte of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) - Purna Prasad Rajbansi secured 16,685 (41.31%) votes and secured victory in the election. The runner-up candidate was Krishna Prasad Sitaula of Nepali Congress Party who secured 14,049 (34.79%) votes and came in second position.
