There were 43,587 votes casted during 2008 Constituent Assembly elections in Jhapa District, Constituency No. 1. The candidte of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) - Dharma Prasad Ghimire secured 15,276 (35.05%) votes and secured victory in the election. The runner-up candidate was Narendra Bikram Nembang of Nepali Congress Party who secured 14,283 (32.77%) votes and came in second position.
